Background of the Study

Cybersecurity is a major concern for startups worldwide, as they are often targets of cyberattacks due to their limited resources and lack of robust security infrastructure. In Nigeria, where the startup ecosystem is rapidly growing, cybersecurity threats such as data breaches, hacking, and identity theft are becoming more prevalent. Traditional cybersecurity methods, while effective to some degree, are increasingly vulnerable to quantum computing-based attacks.

Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize cybersecurity by providing new cryptographic techniques and enhancing existing security protocols. This study aims to design and implement a quantum-enhanced cybersecurity framework for startups at Co-Creation Hub in Abuja, Nigeria.

Statement of the Problem

Nigerian startups, particularly those in the technology and e-commerce sectors, face growing cybersecurity risks that could jeopardize their operations and customer trust. The existing cybersecurity frameworks may not be adequate to protect against the future threats posed by quantum computing. This study seeks to develop a quantum-enhanced cybersecurity framework tailored to the specific needs of startups.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To design a quantum-enhanced cybersecurity framework for protecting Nigerian startups from cyber threats.

  2. To evaluate the effectiveness of quantum cryptographic techniques in securing startup infrastructures.

  3. To assess the feasibility of implementing quantum-enhanced security measures in Co-Creation Hub’s startup ecosystem.

Research Questions

  1. How can quantum computing enhance the cybersecurity of Nigerian startups?

  2. What quantum cryptographic methods are most suitable for securing startup infrastructures?

  3. What challenges and opportunities exist in implementing quantum-enhanced cybersecurity in startup environments?

Significance of the Study

This study will provide valuable insights into how quantum computing can be applied to improve cybersecurity for startups in Nigeria. It will contribute to the development of secure business environments and increase the resilience of Nigerian startups against emerging cyber threats.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the design and implementation of a quantum-enhanced cybersecurity framework for startups at Co-Creation Hub, Abuja. Limitations may include the availability of quantum computing resources and challenges in adapting quantum technologies for small-scale startup environments.

Definitions of Terms

  1. Quantum-Enhanced Cybersecurity: The use of quantum computing technologies and quantum cryptographic techniques to strengthen cybersecurity measures.

  2. Quantum Cryptography: A branch of cryptography that uses quantum mechanics to secure data transmission and protect against cyberattacks.

  3. Startup Ecosystem: The community of new businesses, entrepreneurs, and support systems that work together to foster innovation and economic growth.
